CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe is in Nairobi as part of a regional tour of the Pamoja 2027 co-hosts — Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
His visit comes as preparations for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2027 continue, with CAF set to assess Kenya’s readiness to host the continental showpiece. Motsepe is in East Africa for an inspection tour to assess the preparedness of the Pamoja 2027 AFCON co-hosts- Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, ahead of the tournament next year.
A statement from FKF confirmed: “Football Kenya Federation President Hussein Mohammed this evening received the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr. Patrice Motsepe, in Nairobi.
“Dr. Motsepe’s visit forms part of his tour of the three Pamoja AFCON 2027 co-hosting nations, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, as preparations for the continental showpiece continue.”
In Tanzania, Motsepe said he remains confident Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda will successfully host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, dismissing suggestions the tournament could be moved elsewhere.
Speaking during a press conference at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es salaam after a short visit to Tanzania on Thursday, Dr. Patrice Motsepe made it clear that although there is a lot of negative media information out there, the tournament will take place in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
“There is no Plan B, there is no Plan C, there never will be a Plan B, there never will be a Plan C. We are working hard and the AFCON will take place,” the CAF President made it clear during the press conference.
He said that although there are some challenges and emergencies, the three East African countries that will host the tournament are working hard together with CAF to ensure. “We’re going to work together on those areas where we are falling behind, we’ll correct them,” added Dr. Motsepe.
He also made it clear that he has seen improvements since his last visit. “The problem is we are nine months away from the AfCON, which is a big emergency,” he added.
Speaking during an inspection visit in Tanzania, Motsepe conceded there were challenges in preparations, but said CAF was committed to working with the countries to meet key deadlines. Motsepe, however, said no decision had been made on which of the three host nation will stage the opening match of thetournament.
