Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has withdrawn from the Black Stars squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia.
Semenyo has reportedly asked to be excused from international duty to allow him to focus on fully recovering from an ankle injury that has been bothering him for some time.
The decision comes as the 26-year-old seeks to give himself sufficient time to properly heal and return to full fitness rather than risk aggravating the problem during the upcoming qualifiers.
Semenyo has been an important attacking option for Ghana in recent international assignments, and his absence will leave head coach Carlos Queiroz with another selection issue ahead of the crucial AFCON qualifying fixtures.
Ghana are scheduled to face Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia as they begin their campaign to secure qualification for the 2027 AFCON tournament.
Semenyo’s withdrawal follows the recent decision by Mohammed Kudus to sit out the upcoming international fixtures, further reducing Ghana’s attacking options.
