Super Eagles winger Moses Simon is set to receive a special honour from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) if he makes his 100th appearance for Nigeria against Madagascar in Friday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.
Simon is one of the most experienced members of the current Super Eagles squad and is on the verge of joining an exclusive list of Nigerian players who have reached the century mark in international appearances.
The 31-year-old Paris FC winger made his Super Eagles debut in March 2015 during a friendly against Uganda.
He came on for Anthony Ujah in the 59th minute to begin what has become a decade-long international career.
Since then, Simon has accumulated 99 appearances for the three-time African champions, with 64 of those coming in competitive matches and 35 in international friendlies.
His experience also extends to major international tournaments and qualifiers.
Simon has represented Nigeria 23 times at the Africa Cup of Nations finals and has featured in 22 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.
The winger has scored 11 goals for the Super Eagles and remains an important attacking option as Nigeria begin their campaign for a place at the 2027 AFCON.
Should Simon feature against Madagascar in Uyo on Friday, he will officially reach 100 appearances for Nigeria.
The milestone is expected to be marked by the NFF, adding another memorable moment to Simon’s international career.
One of his first matches for Nigeria was the 2018 FIFA World Cup preliminary qualifying fixture against Swaziland, the return leg of which was played in Port Harcourt.
After a scoreless draw in Mbabane, the Eagles needed to win to enter the real race for the qualification campaign.
The match dragged towards the end before Simon scored direct from a 22-yard free-kick to set Nigeria on the path to a 2-0 win.
