Morocco delivered a controlled, professional performance to secure a 2–0 win over Gabon, capping off a fixture where the Atlas Lions dictated the tempo from start to finish.
The foundation for the victory was laid in the first half. After Azzedine Ounahi missed a clear chance in the 27th minute, Morocco found their breakthrough in the 36th minute when Nayef Aguerd set up Noussair Mazraoui to fire the hosts ahead.
Gabon found it difficult to break out of their own half, with frustration creeping into their game as defender Anthony Oyono picked up a booking for a foul in the 41st minute.
The physical intensity picked up after the break, with both sides committing fouls in a congested midfield. Morocco’s Ayyoub Bouaddi was shown a yellow card in the 64th minute, while Gabon’s Alex Do Marcolino entered the referee’s book in the 72nd minute following a reckless challenge.
Despite Gabon’s efforts to mount a late push, Morocco effectively put the match out of reach in the 84th minute. Bilal El Khannouss delivered a sharp pass to Soufiane Rahimi, who made no mistake in finishing past the goalkeeper to double Morocco’s lead and seal the 2–0 result.
