Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has played down questions over the length of his contract, insisting that his focus is on serving Ghana rather than the duration of his appointment.
Speaking ahead of Ghana’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against The Gambia, Queiroz said he would be willing to remain in charge for as long as the country remains satisfied with his work.
“If Ghana football is happy with me, it’s not two, three, four years, it is 10 years. I’m not here for a contract, I’m here to serve the Black Stars.”
The Portuguese coach, who recently returned to the Black Stars dugout, has been tasked with rebuilding the national team following a difficult period and preparing the side for the next phase of its development.
Queiroz also delivered a strong message to supporters regarding players who withdrew from the current squad.
The coach said fans who remain preoccupied with the absence of certain players should reconsider attending Tuesday’s qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium.
“If you come tomorrow to cry for the ones that are not here or to say sorry for the ones that are not here, my advice is to stay home.”
Queiroz’s comments underline his desire for supporters to focus on the players available for the crucial qualifier rather than those who are absent.
Ghana will be looking to respond positively on home soil after their 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké in their opening Group F fixture. The Black Stars will face a Gambian side determined to take something from the encounter in Accra.
