Zambia defeated Togo 2–0 in an eventful Group I clash on Matchday 2 of the AFCON 2027 qualifiers. The Chipolopolo made a perfect start when A. Kangwanda opened the scoring in the 2nd minute, putting the Éperviers under immediate pressure.
Togo responded with determination and gradually found its attacking rhythm. The players created several opportunities but struggled to break through a well-organised Zambian defence. The match also faced an unexpected interruption when a power outage plunged the stadium into darkness for around 20 minutes before play resumed.
After the break, Togo continued to push for an equaliser but failed to turn its pressure into a goal. The score remained 1–0 until the 90th minute, with six minutes of stoppage time giving Togolese players another chance to rescue a point.
Zambia ultimately sealed the victory in added time. E. Madanji converted a pass from M. Banda to score the second goal and secure all three points for the Chipolopolo. The result strengthens Zambia’s position in Group I, while Algeria remains at the top and Togo stays in the race for qualification.
