Gambia completed a sensational six-goal thrill ride to defeat Ghana 4–2, scoring four goals after falling behind early in a dramatic contest.
Ghana appeared in complete command during the opening half-hour. Ernest Nuamah put the Black Stars ahead from the penalty spot in the 27th minute, and Felix Afena-Gyan extended the lead to 2–0 in the 33rd minute with a stunning direct free kick.
The match shifted dramatically in the 36th minute following a heated argument that saw Ghana’s K. Oppong and Gambia’s Y. Bojang booked. Galvanized by the friction, Gambia struck back immediately when Muhammed Badamosi converted a penalty in the 37th minute. Five minutes later, Omar Colley turned in a setup from Y. Bojang to send the teams into halftime tied at 2–2.
The tension spilled into the second half with referee cautions for Ghana’s Benjamin Tetteh (63′) and Gambia’s Ebou Adams (64′). Gambia then took the lead for the first time in the 68th minute through Ebrima Colley, who was shown a yellow card a minute later for his exuberant goal celebration.
As Ghana pushed forward in stoppage time looking for a late equalizer, Gambia struck the final blow. Ebrima Colley netted his second of the match in the 91st minute off an assist from Sanyang, putting the cap on a historic 4–2 victory for the Scorpions.
