Former Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has thanked Ghanaians following his departure from the Black Stars, while acknowledging that the conditions he needed to build a stronger national team were not fully established.
Queiroz, who recently parted ways with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), expressed his appreciation to the association, its president and the Ghanaian people for giving him the opportunity to lead the Black Stars.
“It has been an honour to serve Ghana and the Black Stars,” Queiroz said in a farewell message.
“I sincerely thank the Ghana Football Association and particularly its President for their trust and for the opportunity to lead such a proud football nation.”
The Portuguese coach said he arrived in Ghana with the intention of laying foundations for a stronger future for the Black Stars while contributing to the development of the country’s football talent.
“I came to Ghana determined to help build a stronger future for the Black Stars and support the development of the country’s talent,” he stated.
However, Queiroz acknowledged that the circumstances surrounding his tenure did not allow those ambitions to be fully realised.
“Despite our commitment and efforts, the necessary conditions were not fully established, and our recent performance added to the decision to bring this journey to an end,” he added.
Queiroz’s departure comes after a challenging period for the Black Stars, with recent performances adding pressure to his short return to the Ghana national team.
The coach nevertheless ended his message by expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve Ghana and the Black Stars.
