Nigeria Premier Football League clubs have started reaping the benefits of the new EuroMatch era, as all 20 clubs have received ₦15 million each from the league’s title sponsorship deal.
The payment, confirmed by NPFL Chief Operating Officer Dr. Ayo Abdulrahman, represents the first tranche of the sponsorship revenue, totalling ₦300 million disbursed to clubs.
The EuroMatch deal, unveiled in Abuja in August, is a 3-year agreement worth $7.5 million ($2.5m per season).
A major highlight of the contract is that 60% of the annual proceeds goes directly to clubs, a deliberate move to strengthen club finances and improve player welfare.
This marks a new commercial dawn for the NPFL, which operated for almost 10 years without a title sponsor since Globacom’s exit in 2016.
Former NPFL Chairman, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, had earlier explained that channeling the bulk of the funds to clubs is to ensure the league’s commercial growth reflects in better pay and welfare for players.
The boost comes at a time optimism is high in the league, with the National Sports Commission announcing a record ₦1 billion prize money for the 2026/2027 champions, up from ₦200 million.
Beyond the cash injection, the sponsorship is expected to give the NPFL a stronger brand identity and push clubs toward better professionalism, development and accountability.
Ultimately, its success will be judged by how well the funds translate to visible growth on and off the pitch.
