Argentina: Lionel Messi already nostalgic ahead of farewell

Lionel Messi will play his final match for Argentina on Tuesday when the Albiceleste face Benin at El Monumental in Buenos Aires. The captain will take part in an emotional farewell as Argentine fans prepare to celebrate the end of one of the greatest international careers in football history.

Messi completed his final training session with the national team on Monday before posing for a photo with his teammates and the entire staff. The 39-year-old then shared the image on Instagram with a heartfelt message: “special moments that I know I will miss.” The post reflected his emotions ahead of his final appearance in the famous Albiceleste shirt.

Messi leaves Argentina with 207 international appearances and 125 goals. He also guided the national team to several major trophies, including the 2022 World Cup.

On Tuesday, El Monumental will give the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner one final opportunity to wear the Argentina shirt and share a special moment with the supporters.
