Thursday results

Blacks Power 0-4 Vipers SC

NEC 0-0 Express

Defending champions Vipers SC registered a second consecutive win in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, dispatching Blacks Power 4-0 in Hoima on Thursday.

Gusto Mulongo scored twice, with Usama Arafat and Milton Karisa getting the other goals. The victory lifts Vipers to seventh on six points, six behind leaders BUL, who have played a match more. Blacks Power had made a strong start to life back in the top flight, winning three of their first four matches.

But they lost 2-1 away to BUL before suffering a heavier defeat against Vipers. They remain three places above the champions in fourth on nine points. Mulongo broke the deadlock in the 12th minute with a superb header, connecting with Ashraf Mandela’s brilliant cross from the right. Usama doubled Vipers’ advantage on the half-hour mark.

Vipers continued to dominate, with Mulongo completing his brace before half-time with a beautifully curled effort into the top corner after being set up by Usama. Karisa sealed the emphatic victory in the 81st minute, leaping highest to head Mandela’s inviting delivery into the bottom corner.

Elsewhere at Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, NEC and Express played out a goalless draw. NEC remain second on 11 points from three wins and two draws, while Express are 12th on five points.
