Carlos Kameni Earns UEFA A Coaching Licence, Begins New Chapter in Football

Legendary Cameroonian goalkeeper Carlos Kameni has taken a significant step towards a career in coaching after obtaining his UEFA A Coaching Licence through the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

The former Cameroon international completed the coaching qualification in Madrid, marking a new chapter in a football journey that has seen him achieve success at both club and international levels.

Kameni enjoyed an illustrious playing career, particularly in Spain, where he established himself as one of the standout goalkeepers in La Liga during spells with RCD Espanyol and Málaga CF. He made more than 300 appearances combined for the two clubs, earning a reputation for his reflexes, consistency and ability to deliver in high-pressure matches.

His experience in Spanish football, including encounters against European heavyweights Real Madrid and Barcelona, provides a strong foundation as he prepares to transition from the pitch to the technical area.

The UEFA A Licence is an advanced coaching qualification that prepares holders for senior coaching responsibilities, including working with elite youth teams and serving in assistant coaching roles at professional clubs. It also represents an important step towards obtaining the UEFA Pro Licence, the highest coaching qualification in European football.

At international level, Kameni was a key figure for Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions, winning the gold medal at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney and the Africa Cup of Nations. He also represented his country at two FIFA World Cups and featured in six Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

His experience across international competitions and European club football could prove valuable as he explores opportunities in professional coaching, whether in Europe or Africa.

Kameni’s qualification also adds to the growing number of former African internationals pursuing advanced coaching education as they prepare to contribute to the next generation of football talent.

While his next professional destination remains to be seen, the UEFA A Licence provides Kameni with a recognised platform to begin building his reputation as a coach and potentially bring his wealth of experience to future club or national team assignments.
