Olympique de Marseille suffered another setback on Thursday, losing 1-0 at home to Olympiakos in their second Europa League match of the season. Despite the defeat, Marseille delivered a competitive performance and created enough opportunities to hope for a better result.
However, the numbers paint a worrying picture: OM have now lost six of their eight matches this season. After the final whistle, captain Timothy Weah expressed his disappointment but insisted that the team could still turn things around.
“We want to win. It’s a shame because we defended well and stayed compact, but we couldn’t find a goal, and that’s what hurts us today,” Weah explained. The Marseille captain also acknowledged the team’s weaknesses, particularly its struggles to defend set-pieces. Nevertheless, he urged his teammates to focus on the positives and continue working hard in training. “The coach is committed to his plan, and we’ll keep moving forward with our heads held high. You can see that this team is like a family. The results will come,” he added.
As Marseille search for a way out of their difficult run, Weah’s message reflects his determination to keep the squad united. Now, the supporters will hope that this collective spirit soon translates into victories.
