CAFWCL 2026: Ampem Darkoa Beat Edo Queens to Secure Final Tournament Ticket

Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies have qualified for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League (CAFWCL) after defeating Nigeria’s Edo Queens in a thrilling encounter in Cairo, Egypt.

Ampem Darkoa secured the final qualification spot following an emotionally charged contest that required extra time to produce a decisive winner.

Afishata Mohammed emerged as the match-winner, scoring the crucial goal in extra time to send the Ghanaian side through to the continental tournament.

The victory marks a significant achievement for Ampem Darkoa, who will now represent Ghana at the final tournament as they prepare to compete against some of Africa’s leading women’s football clubs.

Ampem Darkoa Drawn in Group B

Following their qualification, Ampem Darkoa have been placed in Group B alongside three-time African champions AS FAR of Morocco, Uganda’s Kawempe Muslim and Mali’s USFAS Bamako.

The group presents a challenging test for the Ghanaian champions, with all four teams looking to make an impression on the continental stage.

Ampem Darkoa will begin their campaign on November 2, when they face USFAS Bamako in their opening Group B fixture.

The encounter will provide an early opportunity for the Ghanaian side to establish themselves in the competition and build momentum for the remaining group matches.

Edo Queens Miss Out on Qualification

For Nigeria’s Edo Queens, the defeat brings their qualification campaign to an end after they fell short against their Ghanaian opponents.

The result also means that Ampem Darkoa will carry Ghana’s hopes into the final tournament, with Afishata Mohammed’s extra-time strike proving decisive in a closely contested encounter.

With the final tournament approaching, attention will now turn to whether the Ghanaian champions can translate their qualification success into a strong performance against Africa’s elite women’s clubs.
