Otto Addo Reportedly Drags GFA to FIFA Over Contract Termination

Ghanaian coach Otto Addo has reportedly taken the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to FIFA following the termination of his contract as head coach of the Black Stars earlier this year.

The reported development introduces a new twist to the circumstances surrounding Addo’s departure from the Ghana national team, potentially setting the stage for a dispute between the former coach and the country’s football governing body.

Addo’s exit from the Black Stars position had already attracted significant attention, given the importance of the national team and the expectations surrounding Ghana’s performances under his leadership.

Addo is seeking more than US$750,000 in outstanding salaries, bonuses and other contractual entitlements following his dismissal. The claim reportedly includes approximately 15 months of unpaid wages, based on a reported monthly salary of US$50,000.

The GFA announced on March 31, 2026, that it had parted ways with Addo with immediate effect. The decision followed Ghana’s 5-1 defeat to Austria and a 2-1 loss to Germany during the March international window.

Despite guiding Ghana to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Addo came under intense scrutiny after the Black Stars failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and endured a difficult run of results.

The reported FIFA complaint could now bring the financial and contractual terms of his departure into focus. However, the GFA has yet to publicly comment on the reported claim, and the outcome of any proceedings remains unclear.

The case adds another chapter to the controversy surrounding Addo’s second spell in charge of the Black Stars, with attention now turning to how the association will respond to the reported demand for outstanding payments.
