GPL: Musah Hamzata Strikes as Asante Kotoko Battle Back to Hold League Leaders Medeama

Asante Kotoko fought back from a goal down to secure a 1–1 draw against Ghana Premier League leaders Medeama SC at the Baba Yara Stadium in their Matchweek 9 encounter.

Medeama took the lead in the 42nd minute through Usman Safianu, who broke the deadlock to silence the home supporters and give the visitors a crucial advantage heading into the half-time break.

The Porcupine Warriors responded positively after the restart, showing greater urgency as they searched for an equaliser. Their persistence paid off in the 55th minute when Musah Hamzata found the back of the net to restore parity and spark celebrations among the home fans.

With the score level, both sides pushed for a decisive goal in the closing stages, but neither could find a breakthrough as the defences held firm. The contest ultimately ended in a draw, with both teams taking a point from the encounter.

The result represents a valuable point for Medeama in their bid to maintain their position at the summit of the league, while Kotoko will take encouragement from their second-half response against the table-toppers.

Medeama remain top of the Ghana Premier League standings with 18 points from nine matches, having recorded five wins, three draws and one defeat. Their superior goal difference keeps them ahead of title rivals FC Samartex.

Asante Kotoko, meanwhile, move to ninth place with 13 points from nine matches. The Porcupine Warriors have registered three wins, four draws and two defeats, leaving them within reach of the top six as the league campaign continues.
