Ogunbote Frustrated as Plateau United Drop More Points at Home Against Warri Wolves

Plateau United head coach Gbenga Ogunbote has expressed disappointment following his side’s frustrating 1-1 draw against Warri Wolves in Sunday’s 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 11 encounter at the New Jos Stadium.

The Peace Boys missed another opportunity to secure maximum points in front of their home supporters after struggling to overcome a determined Warri Wolves side, extending their disappointing home run in the ongoing NPFL campaign.

Warri Wolves stunned the home crowd by taking an early advantage through Emmanuel Aribogha, putting Plateau United under pressure to respond.

However, Samuel Ayanrinde restored parity for the Jos-based side in the second half, giving the hosts renewed hope of completing a comeback.

Despite their efforts to find a winning goal, Plateau United failed to break down the visitors’ defensive resistance, with both teams eventually settling for a point apiece.

Ogunbote Blames Anxiety for Missed Opportunities

Reacting after the encounter, experienced tactician Gbenga Ogunbote attributed his team’s inability to secure victory to anxiety and poor decision-making in the attacking third.

The former Rangers International and Shooting Stars coach explained that his players became too desperate to score, resulting in rushed decisions and wasted opportunities.

“I think this is an unfortunate draw. There was a lot of anxiety on the part of my boys.

They were trying everything hurriedly to make sure we scored. Unfortunately, we were getting it all wrong,” Ogunbote said.

The Plateau United manager further admitted that dropping points at home represented a significant setback for his team, particularly at a stage of the season when home victories are crucial to their ambitions.

“This is another home draw, and it is a big one against us,” he concluded.

Plateau United Face Crucial Test Against Nasarawa United

The draw represents another missed opportunity for Plateau United, who were hoping to claim their second victory in five league matches and move level on points with the teams occupying the top positions on the NPFL table.

The Jos-based club currently occupy sixth position on the league standings and will now turn their attention to their next assignment against Nasarawa United.

Ogunbote and his players will be looking to correct their attacking shortcomings and return to winning ways when they travel for the Matchday 12 fixture next weekend.

For Warri Wolves, the result represents a valuable away point as they continue their campaign in the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season.

With the competition for points intensifying, Plateau United will need to rediscover their winning form, particularly at home, if they are to remain firmly in contention for the league title.
