Algeria Revive Qualification Hopes with Crucial Victory Over South Africa

Algeria reignited their qualification ambitions at the ongoing U-17 continental competition after securing an impressive 2-0 victory over South Africa on Sunday, thanks to a brilliant brace from Yacine Abed.

The Young Fennecs responded strongly after their frustrating 2-2 draw against Ghana, producing a disciplined and clinical display to claim all three points in a tense encounter.

South Africa began the match brightly and enjoyed more possession in the early stages, repeatedly attacking through the flanks in search of an early breakthrough.

The Amajimbos looked lively going forward and created several promising moments, but Algeria’s well-organised defensive structure kept them at bay.

Despite spending long periods without the ball, the North Africans remained patient and tactically disciplined.

Algeria gradually settled into the game and began threatening on quick counter-attacks, exploiting spaces left behind by the advancing South African side.

Their persistence paid off in the 41st minute when Yacine Abed capitalised on a defensive gap to calmly beat the South African goalkeeper and hand Algeria a crucial lead just before halftime.

Trailing after the break, South Africa pushed forward in search of an equaliser and managed to create a few dangerous openings.

However, poor finishing and Algeria’s resolute defending prevented them from getting back into the contest.

As the South Africans committed more players forward late in the game, Algeria took advantage once again on the counter.

In the 85th minute, Abed completed his outstanding performance by finishing off a swift attacking move to seal the victory and confirm his brace.

The result significantly boosts Algeria’s hopes of progressing from the group stage, while South Africa will now face increasing pressure in their remaining fixtures.

Yacine Abed’s match-winning display underlined Algeria’s attacking quality and resilience, with the Young Fennecs showing character to bounce back strongly after their earlier draw against Ghana.
