The United States made a perfect start to their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign by defeating Paraguay 4-1 on June 13. The Americans immediately imposed their rhythm and dominated the first half with intensity and attacking quality.
Their constant pressure quickly destabilized the Paraguayan defense and allowed the hosts to take complete control of the encounter in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.
Folarin Balogun led the American charge by opening the scoring in the 31st minute before adding a magnificent second goal just before halftime. At the break, the United States already held a comfortable 3-0 advantage and looked unstoppable offensively. Coach Mauricio Pochettino watched his team display confidence, speed and efficiency throughout the opening 45 minutes.
Paraguay tried to respond after the break and managed to pull one back through Mauricio. However, the Americans continued to create dangerous opportunities and ultimately sealed the victory late in the game. Substitute Giovanni Reyna scored in the 98th minute, confirming the United States’ convincing 4-1 win.
The United States therefore secured all three points and already sent a strong message to the rest of the competition at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
