2026 FIFA World Cup: Japan and Tunisia face key test

Japan and Tunisia will meet this Sunday at 4:00 AM GMT in a decisive Group F clash at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Both teams need a positive result to keep their hopes of reaching the Round of 32 alive.

Japan earned a 2-2 draw against the Netherlands in its opening match, while Tunisia looks to bounce back after suffering a heavy defeat to Sweden.

Japan enters the contest with a clear historical advantage. The Blue Samurai have won five of their six meetings with Tunisia, scoring eight goals and conceding only three. Tunisia claimed its only victory in June 2022 with a convincing 3-0 win in the Kirin Cup. Since then, Japan has regained control of the rivalry, including a 2-0 victory in their most recent meeting in October 2023.

The stakes could not be higher in Group F. The Netherlands and Sweden currently occupy the top two positions, leaving Japan in third place and Tunisia at the bottom of the standings. A victory would significantly boost either nation’s qualification hopes, while another setback could leave the losing side facing elimination before the final round of group-stage matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
