2026 FIFA WORLD CUP: France and Iraq confirmed lineups

France have named a star-studded starting lineup as they look to book their place in the FIFA World Cup knockout stages, while Iraq have also unveiled a competitive side hoping to produce a much-improved display in their second Group I fixture.

Didier Deschamps has opted for a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Mike Maignan retaining his place in goal. The back four features Jules Koundé, Dayot Upamecano, William Saliba and Lucas Digne, providing a blend of pace, physicality and experience in defence.

In midfield, Manu Koné and Adrien Rabiot are tasked with controlling the tempo, allowing an exciting attacking trio of Michael Olise, Ousmane Dembélé and Bradley Barcola to operate behind captain Kylian Mbappé, who leads the line. The French attack boasts exceptional pace and creativity, with Mbappé expected to be the focal point.

Iraq, meanwhile, have also lined up in a 4-2-3-1 system. Ahmed Basil starts between the posts behind a defensive unit comprising Hussein Ali, Zaid Tahseen, Akam Hashem and Merchas Doski.

Zaid Ismail and Ali Al-Ammari will anchor the midfield, while Zidane Iqbal takes on the creative role just behind striker Aymen Hussein. Ali Qasem and Ibrahim Bayesh are expected to provide width and attacking support from the flanks.

The stakes are clear for both teams. A victory for France would secure their place in the next stage after opening their campaign with a 3-1 win over Senegal. Iraq, on the other hand, will be desperate to avoid another heavy defeat after suffering a 4-1 loss to Norway in their opening match. With qualification ambitions on the line, the clash promises to be a significant test for both sides.
