Mexico dominated the first half and took a significant step toward qualification with a 2–0 lead, as Julian Quinones opened the scoring before Raul Jimenez doubled the advantage following a defensive error by Ecuador.
More dangerous on offense and better organized in their play, the Mexicans controlled the pace against a struggling Ecuador, despite a few promising chances for the South American side.
And so far, everything is going wonderfully for Mexico, which is, as expected, leading Ecuador in this Round of 16 match at the 2026 World Cup.
La Tri will have to put together a completely different second half if it wants to avoid being eliminated.
