Ghana international goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zigi has brushed aside suggestions that luck is rarely on his side whenever he is between the posts, insisting that success as a goalkeeper is built on hard work rather than superstition.
Responding to claims that he “attracts shots” during matches, Ati Zigi dismissed the notion that misfortune follows him whenever he starts in goal.
“I don’t know what anyone means by luck is not on my side. We all need luck sometimes but it’s more about your hardwork,” the goalkeeper said.
The experienced shot-stopper also addressed the perception that opposing teams tend to create more chances when he is in goal, explaining that he sees it as part of his responsibility rather than a negative.
“People say balls come to me when I’m in post. For me, that’s not a problem. As a goalkeeper your job is to save. More balls should come,” he added.
Ati Zigi’s comments reflect his confidence and mentality as a goalkeeper, emphasizing that facing frequent shots is an opportunity to contribute to his team’s success rather than a sign of bad luck. His response underlines his belief that preparation, resilience and hard work remain the key ingredients behind strong performances on the pitch.
