WAFCON 2026: Morocco Take Command with Three-Goal First-Half Display Against Kenya

Hosts Morocco produced a dominant first-half performance to storm into a commanding 3-0 lead over Kenya after an entertaining opening 45 minutes.

Kenya nearly made the perfect start in the fifth minute when Amunyelat unleashed a powerful strike from outside the penalty area, only to see her effort crash against the goalpost.

Morocco responded almost immediately, coming within inches of breaking the deadlock just two minutes later. The Kenyan goalkeeper, Awuor, initially spilled a fierce effort before recovering brilliantly to deny the rebound after a shallow second attempt.

The sustained pressure eventually paid off as Morocco opened the scoring through Sakini. A defence-splitting pass carved open the Kenyan backline, allowing the forward to calmly slot a low finish into the bottom-right corner beyond the reach of Awuor for a deserved 1-0 lead.

Despite falling behind, Kenya continued to threaten. In the 24th minute, Mukhwana made an impressive run into the Moroccan penalty area, but her dangerous cut-back failed to find a teammate, allowing the hosts to escape.

Morocco capitalised on that missed opportunity five minutes later when Atiq rose highest to head home the second goal, doubling the advantage and putting Kenya under increasing pressure.

The home side completed a ruthless first-half display before the break as Jraidi added a third goal, capping an impressive attacking performance and giving Morocco a commanding 3-0 lead heading into half-time.
