2026 Commonwealth Games:Ruth Usoro Soars Into Long Jump Final With Season’s Best

Nigeria’s Ruth Usoro has booked her place in the women’s long jump final at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in impressive fashion, needing just one attempt to secure automatic qualification.

Usoro produced a season’s best leap of 6.77 metres (+0.6m/s) with her opening attempt, comfortably clearing the automatic qualifying standard of 6.70m.

The Nigerian athlete wasted no time in making her mark, delivering a powerful first jump that immediately placed her among the finalists and ended the need for further attempts in the qualifying round.

Her 6.77m performance represents an encouraging return to form and provides a major boost to Nigeria’s medal hopes in the field events.

With the automatic qualification mark surpassed by seven centimetres, Usoro will now turn her attention to the final, where she will compete against the best long jumpers in the competition for Commonwealth Games honours.

The qualification adds to Nigeria’s strong showing in athletics at the Glasgow Games, with Usoro now poised to challenge for a place on the podium when the women’s long jump final gets underway.

For Usoro, it was a case of “one and done”—one attempt was all she needed to secure her place in the final.
