The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has applauded Asisat Oshoala following her outstanding performance in Nigeria’s hard-fought 1-0 victory over Zambia at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
After starting the opening Group C defeat to Malawi on the bench, Oshoala returned to the starting lineup and made an immediate impact.
The experienced striker scored the decisive goal in the eighth minute, racing onto a long pass from Rasheedat Ajibade before calmly finishing past the Zambian goalkeeper.

Nigeria’s task became more difficult after defender Tosin Demehin was sent off for a challenge on Barbra Banda, forcing the Super Falcons to play with 10 players for much of the contest.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, Oshoala led the attack with determination, constantly troubling Zambia’s defence before she was substituted.
Her early strike proved enough to hand the nine-time African champions a vital victory and breathe new life into their campaign after the disappointing opening loss.
Reacting to her performance, CAF shared a video of Oshoala celebrating her goal on its official X account with the caption: “Still got it. Still showing it. Energy of the Day today.”
The Super Falcons will now turn their attention to their final Group C fixture against Egypt on Wednesday, where a victory will secure a place in the quarter-finals.
