The road to the group stage of the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup has become clearer after the draw for the second preliminary round produced several intriguing fixtures featuring some of the continent’s biggest clubs and emerging challengers.
Ghana will have a keen interest in the competition as Nations FC face a daunting test against Malian outfit FC Diarra. The winner of that tie will progress to meet either AS ZAM of Niger or ASKO de Kara from Togo in what promises to be another difficult hurdle on the journey to the lucrative group phase.
South African giants Kaizer Chiefs will begin their continental campaign against FC Rouge, while Moroccan heavyweights AS FAR take on either AS PSI or CO de Korhogo. Former African champions USM Alger have been paired against the winner of the tie between The Panthers FC and ASPAC FC, with Raja Casablanca awaiting the victor of the clash involving El Kanemi Warriors and UDIB.
Elsewhere, Egyptian side Al Ahly Tripoli will meet the winner between Al Hilal Al Sahil and Welwalo Adigrat USC, while Tanzanian representatives Azam FC face the winner of ZED FC and ASAS Djibouti Télécom. Singida Black Stars are set for a showdown with either Al Ahli Madani or Tusker FC, adding another East African rivalry to the competition.
The first legs of the second preliminary round are scheduled for 16–18 October, with the decisive return legs to be played 23–25 October. The winners will secure places in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage as clubs continue their quest for continental glory.
