Ivory Coast : Hervé Renard reacts to Yan Diomandé’s Real Madrid move

Hervé Renard has welcomed Yan Diomandé’s spectacular move to Real Madrid while focusing on the young winger’s potential rather than his reported €140 million transfer fee.

The new Ivory Coast head coach has closely followed Diomandé’s rapid rise from Leganés to RB Leipzig and now the Spanish giants. “He will improve a lot. He’s a young player with a lot of talent. He’s an atypical player, an excellent dribbler,” Renard told Africafoot. The French coach also highlighted the remarkable progress Diomandé has made in just 18 months, from an almost unknown player in Spain to an established international with the Elephants.

Renard also urged observers not to judge Diomandé according to the size of his transfer fee. “Diomandé isn’t responsible for these very high prices,” he stressed. The coach instead wants to see how the 19-year-old develops at Real Madrid and, above all, what he can bring to the Ivory Coast national team.

“What interests me is what he can bring to the national team,” Renard insisted. For the Elephants, Diomandé’s arrival at one of Europe’s biggest clubs could therefore represent another major step in the development of a player who already has huge expectations surrounding him.
