Achraf Hakimi has opened up about his ambitions for the Ballon d’Or after earning a place among the 30 finalists for the second consecutive season. The Paris Saint-Germain defender finished sixth in last year’s ranking, which Ousmane Dembélé won. Speaking to CBS after PSG’s 4-2 victory over Manchester City, the Moroccan international admitted that winning football’s most prestigious individual award would mean a great deal to him, although he does not consider it an obsession.
“I hope a PSG player can bring this trophy back to Paris so we can celebrate it with the fans and the team,” Hakimi said. The right-back also acknowledged his personal ambition, while insisting that he would remain happy even if he did not win the award. “It’s a special trophy—everyone wants to win it—but even if I don’t, I’m very happy to have been nominated,” he explained.
For Hakimi, collective success remains the priority over individual recognition. The Moroccan international wants to see Paris Saint-Germain continue to shine and believes team trophies matter more than personal accolades. Although he would welcome the opportunity to lift the Ballon d’Or one day, his main focus remains helping PSG achieve its goals and celebrating success alongside his teammates and the club’s supporters.
