AFCON 2025: CAS sets date for final verdict!

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has announced that it expects to deliver its final verdict on the AFCON 2025 title dispute by the end of November 2026. Senegal appealed to the Lausanne-based tribunal after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeals Committee stripped the country of its title, despite its victory over Morocco on the pitch. The ruling could determine which nation officially claims the continental crown.

In a statement, CAS confirmed that its arbitrators had begun deliberations following a closed-door hearing held on October 8 at its headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland. The tribunal explained that it intends to issue a comprehensive decision, including the legal reasoning behind its ruling, known as a CAS award. “This process will take several weeks, and the CAS award is expected by the end of November 2026,” the statement read. The announcement gives both federations a clearer timeline as they await the outcome of the legal proceedings.

Senegal’s football federation has challenged CAF’s decision and is seeking to restore the title the national team won on the field against Morocco. The dispute has placed the outcome of AFCON 2025 under legal scrutiny, with CAS now tasked with reviewing the case and determining whether CAF’s decision should stand.

Until the tribunal delivers its verdict, uncertainty will continue to surround the official winner of the tournament. Both Senegal and Morocco must now wait for a ruling that could settle one of African football’s most contentious disputes.
