Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has explained why goalkeeper Maduka Okoye is currently absent from Nigeria’s camp ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Chelle revealed that Okoye’s club requested permission for the goalkeeper to attend to some club-related activities, and he agreed to the request.
“The goalkeeper is not here. His club asked me to allow him do some club-related activities and I agreed.
“Now, I have to manage the situation,” Chelle said.
Nigeria are preparing to face Madagascar in their opening AFCON 2027 qualifier in Uyo on Friday, with Chelle expected to make decisions on his available goalkeeping options ahead of the encounter.
