Togo have secured a major defensive boost ahead of their decisive AFCON 2027 qualifying double-header against Algeria, with Lilian Brassier set to make his debut for the Éperviers. The 27-year-old defender has committed his international future to Togo and features in Patrice Neveu’s final squad.
After months of discussions with the Togolese Football Federation, Brassier has agreed to represent Togo at international level. Head coach Patrice Neveu initially included the Eintracht Frankfurt defender in his 31-man preliminary squad before confirming his place in the final selection on November 3, 2026.
The former Brest player brings valuable experience from European football, including the Bundesliga, and could strengthen a Togolese defence preparing to face Algeria’s attacking threat. His decision also represents an encouraging development for Togo as the country seeks to attract more dual-national players to its national team project.
Brassier will have the opportunity to make his international debut during the two meetings with Algeria, scheduled for November 14 and 17 as part of the AFCON 2027 qualifiers. Togo will first travel to Algeria before hosting the return fixture at the Stade de Kégué in Lomé. His arrival raises expectations among Togolese supporters, who hope his experience and defensive qualities will help the Éperviers secure positive results in both encounters.
