AFCON U-17: Black Starlets Held by Uganda After Entertaining First Half

The Black Starlets were forced to settle for a 1-1 scoreline at halftime after an intense opening 45 minutes against Uganda in their crucial FIFA U-17 World Cup playoff encounter.

Ghana made the brighter start and took the lead in the ninth minute through Eric Adu Gyamfi, who calmly finished off a well-worked attacking move to hand the Starlets an early advantage.

The Black Starlets continued to dominate possession after the opener, showing confidence on the ball and threatening to extend their lead with quick attacking transitions.

Uganda, however, gradually grew into the contest and found a route back into the game in the 33rd minute. The East Africans delivered on a well-taken corner kick, with the captain delivering a dangerous set-piece that resulted in the equaliser.

The goal shifted momentum late in the first half as Uganda gained confidence, while Ghana looked to regain control before the break.

Despite several attacking moments from both sides, neither team could find a second goal before halftime, leaving the contest finely balanced heading into the second half.
