AFCON U-23: Levy Mwanawasa Stadium to host Zambia versus Burundi

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) wishes to inform its members and stakeholders that the Egypt 2027 U-23 AFCON qualifier between Zambia and Burkina Faso will be held at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka on 15 November 2026 following approval by CAF.

In confirming the venue for the U-23 AFCON qualifier, FAZ General Secretary Charles Chakatazya also announced that 13 November Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Zambia and Burundi will be played at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola after the initial proposal to move the game to Heroes Stadium fell through.

Chakatazya says all the relevant parties have been notified of the confirmed venues for Zambia’s forthcoming fixtures.

“I wish to confirm that the U-23 home match will be held in Lusaka after receiving approval from CAF and engaging all the interested parties to the match. We are happy that the U23 match opens the way to the return of international matches to Lusaka,” he said.

“On the Chipolopolo, we were unable to secure the change of venue given the tight deadlines to fulfil the conditional approval. Our 13 November home match against Burundi will therefore be in Ndola. Our desire and plan is to see the Chipolopolo return to their Lusaka base in the near future.”

Chakatazya says preparations for both assignments are in high gear with FAZ tasking the two teams to collect maximum points.

“We are only appealing to fans and the public to fully support our teams by buying tickets available through Computicket and ensure that we make our home ground advantage count,” he added.

The Chipolopolo host Burundi on 13 November before heading to Bujumbura for the return fixture scheduled for four days later while the U23 travel to Ouagadougou for 11 November away fixture with the home fixture four days later in Lusaka.

The 14 nations in the U23 qualifiers that emerge from the Second Round will progress to the decisive Third Round, where seven two-legged ties will determine the teams that join Egypt at the finals.

CAF will use the U23 AFCON as the pathway to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games where the top two or three finishers earn direct qualification for the LA28 Olympic Games.
