Fulham produced a disciplined defensive display to hold Liverpool to a 0-0 draw at Anfield, with Nigeria internationals Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey playing important roles in securing a valuable Premier League point.
Iwobi started in midfield for Fulham and provided an attacking outlet for the visitors. His pinpoint delivery created a good opportunity for Oscar Bobb in the first half, but the Fulham attacker was unable to control the ball cleanly.
At the other end, Calvin Bassey delivered an outstanding defensive performance, helping Fulham keep Liverpool’s attacking players quiet.
The Nigerian centre-back was particularly impressive against Alexander Isak, limiting the Sweden international’s influence for much of the contest.
Liverpool increased the pressure after the interval, introducing Cody Gakpo and Alexis Mac Allister, but Fulham remained organised and resilient. Bassey continued to command the defence as the visitors protected their clean sheet.
Isak eventually escaped Bassey’s attention in stoppage time but could only head Dominik Szoboszlai’s corner wide, summing up Liverpool’s frustrating afternoon in front of goal.
The result gives Fulham their first Premier League point of the season after three successive defeats, while Liverpool were forced to settle for another draw at the start of the campaign.
