A few weeks after Petkovic’s departure, the FAF continues its search for a new head coach for the Algerian national team, with a new Italian candidate now emerging.
According to AL24news, Walter Mazzarri is nearing an agreement with the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) to take the reins of Les Verts.
The Italian coach is now reportedly a strong contender for the head coaching position.
At 64 years old, Mazzarri has extensive experience at the top level in Europe. He has managed Napoli, Inter Milan, Fiorentina, and Watford, among others.
His tenure at Napoli stands out in particular, having won the Coppa Italia in 2012 and finishing second in Serie A in 2013.
According to the Algerian media outlet, Stefano Pioli is no longer being considered, while Tiago Pinto’s candidacy has reportedly stalled due to disagreements over the composition of his coaching staff.
Walter Mazzarri could thus become the next coach to take charge of the Greens. For now, no final agreement has yet been announced by the FAF.
Upcoming discussions should confirm whether or not the former Napoli coach will take the helm of the Algerian team.
