The Youcef Belaili saga has taken a twist, with the Algerian international now favoring a return to Algeria instead of extending his contract with Esperance de Tunis.
According to Mosaique FM, the 34-year-old winger did not show up for the medical exam scheduled for Tuesday with the Tunisian club a step that was supposed to precede the signing of his new contract with the Sang et Or.
The new agreement notably provided for the payment of sums owed to the player by ES Tunis, as well as the continuation of his financial benefits.
However, talks have reportedly come to an end, as Belaili wishes to bring his time in Tunisia to a close.
The former Brest and Ajaccio player is now said to be close to a return to MC Alger.
The reigning Algerian champion is reportedly already moving forward with the deal and is only waiting for certain administrative details to be finalized, particularly those related to his dispute with the Corsican club.
