Azamati Finishes Seventh as Ghana Misses Out on Commonwealth Games 100m Medal

Ghanaian sprinter Benjamin Azamati’s quest for a Commonwealth Games medal ended in disappointment after he finished seventh in the men’s 100m final at Scotstoun on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old crossed the finish line in 10.11 seconds, falling short of the form that had seen him emerge as one of the favourites following a strong semifinal performance.

Azamati had booked his place in the final by producing an impressive run of 10.00 seconds in the semifinals, raising hopes of a podium finish for Ghana. However, he was unable to reproduce that pace in the final as the race slipped away from him.

The result ends Ghana’s hopes of claiming a medal in the men’s individual 100m event, with Azamati unable to convert his promising semifinal display into a top-three finish.

Despite the setback, Azamati’s run to the final once again highlighted his status as one of Ghana’s leading sprinters on the international stage.
