Basketball: D’Tigress Beaten by South Korea in World Cup Opener

South Korea handily defeated Nigeria 99–81 on the opening day of the 2026 Women’s Basketball World Cup in Berlin.

This Group B opener lived up to all expectations, delivering a high-scoring offensive spectacle at the Uber Arena.

The African champions, however, gave their opponents a run for their money in the first half thanks to Amy Okonkwo’s physical presence.

Trailing by one point at halftime, the South Koreans bounced back after the break with formidable outside shooting.

The game was decisively decided in a one-sided fourth quarter, where the Asian team stifled the D’Tigress.

Thanks to this convincing victory, South Korea heads into its matchup against France with a boost of confidence, while Nigeria will need to bounce back immediately against Hungary.
