Bayern Munich: Vincent Kompany rushed to hospital

Vincent Kompany has sparked concern in Germany after falling ill this Friday, following a Bayern Munich training session. According to German media outlets BILD and Sky Sport, the Belgian coach was taken to the hospital by ambulance, having been weakened by a viral infection for several days.

BILD reports that the infection caused complications related to old scar tissue, making certain physical activities—such as climbing stairs—difficult for the coach. Sky Sport adds that Kompany had been experiencing leg pain leading up to the Champions League match against Arsenal, compounded by the viral infection and hip issues. Emergency services were called to the Säbener Straße training center after he fell ill; according to Sky Sport, his condition is currently stable.

The illness had already disrupted his routine over the past few days. Despite his poor health, Kompany led the pre-match team talk against Leipzig—a game won 6-1—but he had to lie down at halftime and again at the final whistle. He subsequently left it to club officials to speak with the media and missed training sessions on Monday and Tuesday. His assistant, Aaron Danks, also stood in for him at the press conference ahead of the match against Arsenal—which ended in a 2-2 draw—though Kompany was ultimately able to take his place on the Bayern bench.
