Boateng Joins D’Tigress Coaching Crew Ahead of World Cup Preparations

Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have strengthened their technical bench with the appointment of Stanley Boateng as assistant coach ahead of the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup.

Boateng will work alongside head coach Rena Wakama as the reigning African champions intensify preparations for the global tournament.

The addition of Boateng is expected to boost the team’s coaching structure as Nigeria continues to build on recent successes on the continental stage.

D’Tigress have established themselves as Africa’s dominant force in women’s basketball and will be aiming to make another strong statement at the World Cup.

The squad is already in the United States of America for a training tour designed to sharpen the players’ fitness, tactics, and match readiness before the tournament.

As part of the preparation schedule, D’Tigress are set to face three WNBA sides in high-profile friendly matches.

Their opponents include Los Angeles Sparks, Minnesota Lynx, and Indiana Fever.

The games are expected to provide valuable experience for the Nigerian side against elite competition and help the coaching crew assess the team ahead of the World Cup.

Meanwhile, attention will also turn to Berlin on Tuesday when the draw for the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup takes place, as D’Tigress await to learn their group-stage opponents.
