Brazil held by Australia as Ancelotti faces more questions

Brazil’s rebuilding process suffered another setback on Friday as Carlo Ancelotti’s side drew 1-1 with Australia at Queensland Country Bank Stadium.

The Seleção created several chances but lacked precision in the final third, while defensive weaknesses repeatedly exposed them. Rayan rescued Brazil with a late equaliser after Nestory Irankunda had put Australia ahead with a superb free-kick.

Brazil’s defensive problems once again stood out, with Douglas Santos struggling both in his positioning and duels. Australia repeatedly found space in transition and tested a backline that lacked consistency and composure. Up front, Vinicius Junior and Endrick also failed to make a decisive impact before Ancelotti replaced both in the 65th minute, while Raphinha provided one of the few bright moments with an assist.

The result puts further pressure on Ancelotti, who continues to search for a clear identity with Brazil. The Italian coach must now find solutions in both defence and attack as the Seleção prepare for the challenges ahead. With Vinicius, Endrick and several other attacking talents still struggling to produce their best football together, Brazil’s rebuilding project remains far from complete.
