The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has overturned the penalty-shootout outcome between Nigeria’s Edo Queens and Ghanaian club Ampem Darkoa, directing that extra time must now be played to determine the winner.
The ruling was issued on September 26, 2026, by the CAF Organising Committee for Women’s Football following a formal protest from Ampem Darkoa over the procedures used during the September 5 final.
CAF stated that the failure to introduce extra time resulted from an administrative error and was not caused by either of the two participating teams.
According to the ruling, match officials were initially informed that the game would proceed into extra time if the scores were level after the regulation 90 minutes.
However, the referee subsequently received a different instruction to proceed directly to a penalty shootout in the event of a draw.
Ampem Darkoa challenged the decision, maintaining that the procedure was inconsistent with Articles 13.1 and 72.4 of the CAF Women’s Champions League Regulations.
Following its review, CAF has directed that the required extra time be played, potentially changing the outcome of the September 5 encounter.
The development puts the previous penalty-shootout result involving Edo Queens under review and leaves the final outcome subject to the implementation of CAF’s latest directive.
