A new assessment by the Confederation of African Football has cast doubt over Kenya’s preparedness to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, revealing that none of the country’s current stadiums meet the required standards for the tournament.
According to the report, Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani requires extensive upgrades, including improvements to the pitch, floodlighting, security infrastructure, and VIP facilities. Meanwhile, the proposed Talanta Sports City remains under development, with critical design elements and operational systems yet to be finalized.
The situation is no better at Nyayo National Stadium, which has been described as outdated, with no clear or active renovation roadmap in place. CAF’s evaluation suggests the venue may only be suitable as a training ground unless significant upgrades are undertaken.
With the countdown to AFCON 2027 already underway, the report underscores the urgency for swift and decisive action. Kenya now faces mounting pressure to accelerate infrastructure development or risk falling short of hosting requirements for one of Africa’s biggest sporting events.
