CAFCL: Enugu Rangers Beat MC Alger with Dramatic Late Goals

Enugu Rangers produced a dramatic late performance to defeat Algerian giants MC Alger in the first leg of their CAF Champions League encounter at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, with goals from Igboke and Eno James securing a crucial advantage for the Nigerian side.

The Flying Antelopes broke the deadlock in the 87th minute through Igboke before Eno James doubled their lead three minutes later, handing Rangers a vital victory heading into the return leg.

The encounter appeared destined for a tense finish until Igboke found the breakthrough in the closing stages, rewarding Rangers for their persistence against a determined MC Alger side.

Rangers then capitalised on their momentum when Eno James struck in the 90th minute to make it two goals and put the Nigerian representatives in a strong position ahead of the second leg.

The match also witnessed a major disciplinary setback for MC Alger, who were reduced to ten men after their goalkeeper was sent off for bringing down an opposing player during what appeared to be a promising counterattack.

The dismissal dealt a significant blow to the Algerian side at a crucial stage of the contest, leaving them with an uphill task as Rangers pushed for a decisive advantage.

For Enugu Rangers, the late double represents an important result in their quest to advance in Africa’s premier club competition.

However, the Nigerian side will need to maintain their concentration and discipline in the return fixture, where MC Alger will be looking to overturn the deficit.

With a two-goal advantage secured in Abeokuta, Rangers have given themselves a valuable opportunity to progress, but the tie remains open ahead of the decisive second leg.
