Nigerian champions Rangers International have called on their supporters and football-loving Nigerians to turn out in large numbers for their CAF Champions League second preliminary round first-leg encounter against Algerian giants MC Alger.
The highly anticipated fixture will take place at the Moshood Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta on Sunday, with kick-off scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Nigerian time.
Rangers General Manager and Chief Executive Officer, Amobi Ezeaku, made the appeal, urging supporters to rally behind the team as the Flying Antelopes begin their quest to advance further in Africa’s premier club football competition.
Ezeaku expressed confidence that strong support from the stands would motivate the players to deliver an impressive performance and secure a favourable result ahead of the decisive second leg in Algeria.
According to him, the encounter represents more than just a football match, as Rangers carry the hopes, pride and aspirations of Enugu State and Nigeria on the continental stage.
The club’s management is therefore counting on the support of Nigerians to create an encouraging atmosphere that will inspire the players to rise to the occasion against their Algerian opponents.
Rangers Target Positive Result Against MC Alger
The Flying Antelopes will be determined to take advantage of their home fixture and secure a result that would strengthen their chances of progressing to the next stage of the CAF Champions League.
MC Alger, however, will pose a significant challenge as both teams battle for an advantage in the two-legged encounter.
Rangers will be hoping to build momentum in front of their supporters before travelling to Algeria for the return leg, where the outcome of the tie will be decided.
How Rangers Reached the Second Preliminary Round
Rangers International booked their place in the second preliminary round after overcoming Sobemap of the Benin Republic in the opening round.
The Nigerian champions advanced 4-3 on penalties after both legs ended in a 2-2 aggregate draw.
Head coach Fidelis Ilechukwu will now turn his attention to the challenge posed by MC Alger, with Rangers aiming to maintain their continental campaign and strengthen Nigeria’s representation in the competition.
The first-leg encounter in Abeokuta presents an important opportunity for the Flying Antelopes to establish an advantage before the return fixture in Algeria.
With the club’s management calling for massive support, Rangers will be hoping that Nigerian football fans turn out in numbers to cheer the team as they pursue their CAF Champions League ambitions.
