Congo appoints Claude Le Roy as national team coach

Claude Le Roy is returning to the dugout at 78 years old. The experienced French coach will take charge of Congo national football team with the ambition of leading the Red Devils back to the Africa Cup of Nations in 2027.

Known across Africa as the “White Wizard,” Claude Le Roy will once again work on the continent after several successful spells with national teams including Cameroon, Senegal, Ghana, DR Congo, Togo, and Congo Brazzaville. He previously coached Congo between 2013 and 2015 and now begins a new mission with the national side.

Le Roy will not work alone during this new adventure. Former Omar Daf will join his staff as assistant coach. Together, they will try to build a competitive squad capable of qualifying for the next AFCON tournament, which Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda will host in 2027.
