Edo Queens Crowned WAFU B Champions After Penalty Shootout Win Over Ampem Darkoa

Edo Queens have been crowned champions of the CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU B Qualifiers after defeating Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies 4-1 on penalties following a thrilling 2-2 draw in regulation time.

Ampem Darkoa made a bright start to the contest and took the lead through Beline Nyarko, who put the Ghanaian champions in front.

Edo Queens responded before the break, finding the equaliser to send the teams into halftime level at 1-1.

The Nigerian side came under pressure again after the restart as Ampem Darkoa regained the advantage, with Nyarko once again finding the back of the net, this time from the penalty spot, to make it 2-1.

Just when Ampem Darkoa appeared destined to hold on for victory, Edo Queens struck late in the second half. They found a dramatic equaliser with only two minutes of added time remaining, forcing the contest into a penalty shootout.

Edo Queens held their nerve from the spot, converting four penalties while Ampem Darkoa managed just one, sealing a 4-1 shootout victory.

The triumph sees Edo Queens emerge as WAFU B champions and secure their place on the next stage of the CAF Women’s Champions League campaign.
