Plateau United technical adviser Gbenga Ogunbote has urged his players to remain humble and focused following their emphatic 4-0 victory over Kano Pillars in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The Peace Boys recorded the convincing victory at the New Jos Stadium on Sunday, handing Kano Pillars their first defeat of the season.
Plateau United dominated the encounter, with Paul Samson and experienced midfielder Ekundayo Ojo scoring in the first half to give the hosts a commanding lead.
Samuel Ayanrinde and Nenrot Silas then found the net after the break to complete the 4-0 rout and secure an important victory for the Jos-based club.
Despite the impressive performance, Ogunbote warned his players against allowing the result to affect their mentality, insisting that the team must maintain its concentration as the league campaign progresses.
Speaking after the match, the experienced tactician reminded his players that the NPFL season is a long competition requiring consistency and discipline.
“The league is a marathon. We won’t allow it to get into our heads.
“This is just one out of the 38 matches we are going to play this season,” Ogunbote told reporters.
The Plateau United coach acknowledged the importance of the victory but maintained that the team must continue working hard to achieve its objectives.
He also expressed optimism that the club’s supporters would have more reasons to celebrate before the end of the season.
“But it is a good one for us, and I can assure you that the supporters will also be happy at the end of the season,” he added.
The comprehensive win provides a morale boost for Plateau United as they seek to build momentum in the NPFL.
However, Ogunbote’s message underscores the need for consistency, with the coach determined to prevent complacency from undermining the team’s progress.
Plateau United will now turn their attention to their next league fixture against Sporting Lagos, where they will aim to build on their impressive performance against Kano Pillars.
