FIFA U-17 WWC: Ghana Fight Back Twice to Hold Brazil in Thrilling 3–3 Draw

Ghana and Brazil served up a six-goal thriller in an entertaining encounter, sharing the spoils in a dramatic 3–3 draw after the hosts fought back twice to deny the South Americans victory.

The match featured end-to-end action, several momentum swings, two significant VAR interventions and a late equaliser from Mensah, who struck in the 85th minute to rescue a point for Ghana.

Brazil took the lead early, but Ghana responded with two quick goals before the visitors restored parity just before half-time. Brazil regained the advantage in the second half, only for Ghana to produce another late response and secure a share of the points.

Brazil made the perfect start when Nicolly opened the scoring in the seventh minute, finishing off a pass from Indy Kolster to give the visitors a 1–0 lead.

Ghana gradually settled into the contest and found their breakthrough in the 31st minute through Osman, whose equaliser brought Ghana back on level terms.

The momentum swung further in Ghana’s favour four minutes later when G. Ameaa scored in the 35th minute following an assist from Obinsrewuo, completing a quick turnaround that put the hosts 2–1 ahead.

However, Brazil refused to head into the interval trailing. Kaillany struck in the 44th minute after being set up by Helena to restore parity at 2–2 and set the stage for an intriguing second half.

Brazil resumed the game with renewed intent and regained the advantage in the 57th minute. Indy Kolster, who had provided the assist for the opening goal, turned scorer after receiving a pass from Gigi Pires to make it 3–2.

The second half also produced significant refereeing drama, with VAR playing a key role in two decisions.

In the 63rd minute, a penalty decision involving B. Danso was overturned following a review, with the referee ruling that no penalty should be awarded.

Ghana continued to push for an equaliser and came close to restoring parity in the 75th minute, but Obinsrew failed to convert a promising goalscoring opportunity.

With time running out, Ghana intensified their search for a late goal, refusing to surrender despite Brazil’s advantage.

Their persistence finally paid off in the 85th minute when Mensah found the net after being set up by Jessica Appiah, drawing Ghana level at 3–3 and sparking celebrations.

Neither side could find a decisive winner in the closing stages, bringing an entertaining encounter to an end with the points shared.
